Yoga Alliance Curriculum

What will be covered in this course?

This immersion explores Bhakti Yoga as an embodied path of devotion through asana, mantra, japa, pranayama, kriya, mudra, meditation, and sacred sequencing. The purpose of this training is to experience asana through the lens of Bhakti as a devotional loving offering from the heart to the heart of the practice, to one’s students, and to yoga itself. Participants will learn how Bhakti Vinyasa integrates theme such as deity, story, or philosophical concept with mantra, pranayama, kriya, mudra, and meditation so that the energetic and symbolic depth of the sequence becomes embodied rather than approached as mechanical choreography. Movement becomes an expression of devotion guided by breath, awareness, and intention.

Teaching Techniques, Training and Practice

  • Daily Bhakti Vinyasa practices integrating asana, mantra, japa (repetitive mantra meditation), mudra, meditation, pranayama, and kriya

  • Instruction and experiential study of three devotional Namaskars: Shakti Namaskar, Shiva Namaskar, and Hanuman Namaskar

  • Understanding how to connect movement to breath through Namaskar as the foundation of Vinyasa practice, including the use of Ujjayi pranayama

  • Practice of traditional pranayama and kriya techniques to regulate the nervous system and cultivate awareness of prana

  • Mantra recitation including the Maha Mantra, Om Namah Shivaya, Durga mantras, Hanuman mantras, and bija mantra to support concentration and devotional awareness

Teaching Methodology

  • How to create and sequence Bhakti Vinyasa classes where theme, breath, and movement are fully integrated

  • Understanding Namaskar as an energetic and symbolic progression rather than choreography

  • How mantra, Ujjayi breath, pranayama, and intentional pacing shape the arc and experience of a class

  • Practice teaching devotional sequences with feedback and guidance

  • Developing authentic voice, presence, and the ability to hold devotional space

Anatomy and Physiology (Physical and Energetic)

  • Functional anatomy of the feet, knees, hips, spine, shoulders, and wrists to support safe and sustainable Namaskar and Vinyasa practice

  • Breath mechanics and the physiological effects of pranayama

  • Energetic anatomy including chakras, nadis, prana vayus, and bandhas, and their relationship to stability, breath, and awareness

  • Understanding how the pancha bhutas (five elements) and energetic centers influence sequencing and internal experience

Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics

  • Foundations of Bhakti Yoga in traditional yogic teachings, including the different paths and lineages of Bhakti and understanding yoga as devotion

  • Exploration of devotional archetypes including Ganesha, Radha Krishna, Shakti (Saraswati, Durga, Kali), Shiva, and Hanuman and Sita Ram

  • The role of mantra, japa, and sacred sound in focusing the mind and opening the heart

  • Ethical and culturally respectful integration of sacred teachings in contemporary yoga spaces

Through mantra, japa, pranayama, kriya, meditation, and devotional movement, participants learn how asana becomes an embodied expression of relationship with the divine. Bhakti Vinyasa is approached as storytelling through breath and movement, awakening and embodying divine qualities that already live within. Participants will leave with a deeper personal practice and practical tools to create and teach Bhakti-informed Vinyasa classes rooted in devotion, meaning, and embodied experience.
